PM rules out early polls, says his Govt to complete 5 years

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has ruled out early polls. Answering a question on the occasion of award distribution ceremony of a private news channel in New Delhi today, Dr. Singh said his government will complete five years term.

Later addressing the function, he said that the government will continue to make all possible efforts in the direction of empowering women socially and economically. The Prime Minister said that more needs to be done for making women safer and more secure in the country and also for empowering them.

Talking about the 16th December gang rape incident in the national capital, Dr. Singh said that people should all pay tribute to Delhi brave heart by resolving that they will not let the loss of her life go invain. He said that her courage and zest for life will always serve as an inspiration to the country.

Referring to the role of media in the modern society, Dr. Singh said that the duty of journalist is not only to report correctly and objectively but also to highlight the social injustice. Expressing concern over paid news in election period, the prime Minister said that only media should evolve suitable solution to address the problem.

He said today more than 800 channels in nearly 2 dozen languages in the country and TV sets have now reached more than half the households. He said the process of change in the media sector is continuing with the digitization of the cable industry. The Prime Minister said the digitization will help broadcasters in marker discovery, equitable distribution of income and provide consumers with better service.
