‘PM reviews security situation with Home Minister, announces compensation from National Relief Fund

The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today reviewed the situation arising out of the bomb blast that occurred in Pune with the Home Minister. Mr P Chidambaram briefed the Prime Minister on his visit to Pune and on the state of investigations. The Prime Minister has given directions that the centre and the state governments should take coordinated and effective action to speedily investigate the matter so that the culprits responsible for this heinous act are identified and brought to justice at the earliest.<br/><br/>The Prime Minister expressed his deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of all those killed and injured in the incident. He also announced a compensation of Rs. two lakh each to the next of kin of those killed and Rs. one lakh each to the injured, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. He said that the government would extend whatever help required by the families of those killed and injured in the incident.<br/><br/>Meanwhile a red alert has been issued in Delhi, Indore and Kanpur. The decision ws taken at a high level meeting held today to review the security situation following the blast in Pune. Earlier a general advisory was issued to all states to be on alert.<br/><br/>The US has condemned yesterday's blast in Pune that killed and injured innocent civilians. United States Ambassador in India,Timothy J. Roemer today said in New Delhi that the US remains shoulder-to-shoulder with India in the fight against terror and will assist as needed to help bring the perpetrators of this cowardly act to justice.
