The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh visited the Jawaharlal Nehru sports complex on Sunday, the main venue of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. He oversaw various facilities including playing fields, royal box, stands for spectators, security and other arrangements. Dr Singh asked authorities to redouble their efforts to quickly complete remaining work. He was accompanied by Sports Minister M S Gill and Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi. The Prime minister saw for himself the facilities and the work being done. The main stadium will host the opening and closing ceremony of the Games apart from some athletic events. Our correspondent reports, Dr Singh's visit comes as part of the series of steps he has taken to streamline and expedite the preparations for the mega event.Dr Singh, who has already convened a series of high-level meetings to review the preparations for the Games, is leaving no stone unturned for its success. He has appointed a committee of secretaries headed by Cabinet Secretary to monitor the games related projects. The successful organisation of Commonwealth Games would be another signal to the world that India is rapidly marching ahead with confidence.
