The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh visited the Jawaharlal Nehru sports complex on Sunday, the main venue of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. He was shown various facilities including playing fields, royal box, stands for spectators, security and other arrangements. Our correspondent quoting PMO officials reports, the Prime Minister asked authorities to redouble their efforts to quickly complete remaining work. Dr Singh's visit comes as part of the series of steps he has taken to streamline and expedite the preparations for the mega event. The Prime Minister, accompanied by Sports Minister M S Gill and Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi, went around the stadium. Dr Singh saw for himself the facilities and the work being done. The main stadium will host the opening and closing ceremony of the Games apart from some athletic events.Concerned by the delays and the corruption charges, the Prime minister had convened a high-level meeting on August 14 to review the preparations for the Games. A committee of bureaucrats headed by Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar is also monitoring the games related projects.
