PM reviews preparedness of Commonwealth Games

The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today went round the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the main venue of the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, to review the preparedness for the mega event in October. He was shown various facilities including playing fields, media facilisits, royal box, stands for spectators, security and other arrangements. Dr. Singh has asked authorities to redouble their efforts to complete the remaining work at the Sports Complex. He was accompanied among others by the Sports Minister Dr. M S Gill and the Organising Committee Chairman Mr. Suresh Kalmadi. The Prime Minister's visit comes as part of the series of steps he had taken to streamline and expedite the preparations for the event. The Prime Minister had convened a high-level meeting on the 14th of this month to assess the situation.AIR correspondent reports that the main stadium will host the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on 3rd of October and the closing ceremony on 14th October. It will also host athletic events.
