The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh this evening took stock of the preparations for the Common wealth games at a meeting of union ministers and others responsible for the mega sporting event. The meeting was attended by Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy and Sports Minister M S Gill besides Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna and Chief Minister Sheila Dixit. National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon and Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekhar were also present in the the meeting. Briefing reporters after the meeting Lt .Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna said that Dr. Singh was briefed about progress in the preparations for games. He asserted every effort is being made to meet the expected standards and expressed confidence that games will be a grand success. He added that the guests are being extended hospitality keeping in view the highest Indian traditions. Ahead of the high-level meeting, the Home Minister Mr. P.Chidambaram reviewed the security situation in the National Capital in view of the games. The meeting was attended by senior officials of Home Ministry, Delhi Police and Central Security agencies. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Delhi Police Chief Y.S.Dadwal reiterated assurance that foolproof security arrangements have been made for the Commonwealth Games. AIR correspondent reports that cleanliness drive at the games village is about to complete. Over seventy countries are participating in the sporting event scheduled to begin on 3rd of next month.The Organising Committee Chief Suresh Kalmadi has said that all the participating countries are taking part in the games. The Chief of the Commonwealth Games Federation Mike Fennel is also in Delhi to take stock of the preparations. Earlier, he had expressed reservations at the hygenic conditions at the games village.
