PM returns home after concluding successful Japan visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned home on Wednesday after concluding his successful visit to Japan. Tokyo has promised to invest 35 billion US dollars in India over the next five years for developmental projects, as the two sides agreed to enhance their strategic cooperation to a new level.

Mr. Modi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon after a five-day trip during which he visited Kyoto, besides Tokyo where he held talks with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe and met other leaders. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj received him at the airport here.

The two countries signed five pacts covering defence exchanges, cooperation in clean energy, roads and highways, health care and women.

Japan also lifted ban on six Indian entities including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited which had been imposed in the aftermath of 1998 nuclear tests.
