The Prime Minister is back home after successfully getting G – 20 summit’s endorsement of India’s call for tranperency in World Banking sector to combat black money. The move will provide for exchange of information to combat tax fraud and illicit flow of funds.
Speaking to the media at the end of the two day Summit, the Dr Manmohan Singh said Summit leaders have taken on board the concerns raised by India to combat the menace of black money.
He said, the Mutual Assessment Process of the G20 has made significant progress in all important areas including financial regulation and banking transparency and in the functioning of agricultural and energy markets.
Dr Manmohan Singh called for creating an environment where Indian nationals who have stashed illegal money abroad can bring back the funds.
He said, India is a land of opportunities and it is no longer necessary for people with surplus money to seek greener pastures abroad. Dr. Singh also welcomed Pakistan's decision to grant most favoured nation status to India. He said this could have been done long ago.
The Prime Minister hoped the decision reflected a new mindset towards working for economic growth and prosperity within the SAARC region.
The Prime minister said, the European countries have made some progress towards resolving the economic crisis in the region. He said the decision of Greece to withdraw the referendum on the EU bailout package and Italy agreeing to monitoring of the IMF, were positive steps towards resolving the crisis.
