As the nation awaits to ring in the New Year with all metro cities in festive mood to bid farewell to the year 2010, the Prime Minister has promised the nation to redouble efforts to deal effectively and credibly with the challenges of inflation and cleansing the governing processes. In his message of greeting to the people on the eve of New Year , Dr. Manmohan Singh asserted that his government will work with renewed resolve to deal effectively the challenges to national security and making the public delivery system more effective. He said it is an occasion to take stock of the year gone by and of the challenges that lie ahead.The President and Vice President also greeted the nation on the eve of the New Year. In her message, President Mrs Pratibha Devi Singh Patil has wished for peace, harmony and all round progress in 2011. Mrs. Patil also urged the people to take a resolve to meet the challenges of the present decade and also to promote unity amongst all. Vice President, Mr. Mohammed Hamid Ansari has called on the citizens to work together with resolve and dedication towards building a strong, united, peaceful and prosperous India.The National Capital is all set to bid farewell to ring in the New Year and ring out the old. Restaurants, hotels, malls and markets are fully decorated to bid farewell to 2010 and to welcome the New Year. The city wore a festive look to celebrate the last night of the decade.The City of Djinns wears the look of a bride this evening as it gets ready to usher-in the New Year. Late-night parties and star-performances are the flavor of this special evening. Connaught Place in the heart of the Capital is all lit-up and already stuffed with people who don't want to spend this evening in their quilts. Braving the chilly winds at this hour, Delhiites have come out to party with that trademark fervor of theirs. The Police have made special arrangements to ensure that the last evening of the year is marked by nothing else but celebrations. Traffic on various routes has been diverted to avoid any hiccups. Goa witnessed heavy rush of tourists for the New Year celebration.Reports of preparations for New Year celebrations have also come from across the country.
