PM presents UPA II report card, Sonia says MGNEREGA effective in bringing changes in rural India

Prime minister Manmohan Singh said the UPA government have achieved much over the last one year and is committed to achieving more and do better.

Releasing a Report to the people on the occasion of completion of 3 years of the second term of the Congress led UPA government , Dr. Singh said poverty in the country has declined at twice rate that it did before the UPA Government tenure.

The Prime minister said sustained high rates of growth during the UPA government’s tenure have enabled us to pursue our agenda of inclusive and equitable growth.

The Prime minister said, the government is aware that there is public frustration and anger on the issue of corruption. He assured the people that the UPA government is working sincerely to address the issue through legislative and administrative measures. Dr. Singh said, legislation is before Parliament to establish a Lokpal, and ensure time bound delivery of goods and services and judicial accountability.

The Prime minister also urged all political parties to rise above partisan considerations and strengthen the hands of the UPA government so that India can face the uncertain global environment with greater confidence and rise united to the challenges we face as a nation.
Speaking on the occassion, UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi said MGNERGA programme has been instrumental in rural upliftment.

Mrs. Sonia Gandhi said, the government is committed to sustainable and inclusive economic growth of the country. She said, the government is committed to the welfare of the common people, the down trodden and the SC/ST minorities and Women. Mrs. Gandhi also criticized the opposition saying they make irresponsible statements.

The UPA Chair person also said the government is committed to strengthen legislation to ensure transparency and responsibility in administration.
