The Prime Minister today presented the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award for the year 2009 to veteran Islamic scholor Maulana Wahiduddin Khan. The award was given to him for his outstanding contribution towards the promotion of communal harmony, peace and goodwill.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Manmohan Singh said that Wahiduddin Khan had spent his entire life for the upliftment of poor and downtrodden. Referring to the centre for peace and spirituality established by him, the Prime Minister said that the Maulana worked as an ambassador of peace to spread the message of love and brotherhood in the entire world.Our correspondent reports the award carries a citation and cash amount of five lakh rupees. Amongst others, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, cabinet ministers and leaders and social activists were present on the occasion.
