PM presents bravery awards to children, renews govt.’s pledge to their all round development

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today renewed government's pledge to ensure better education and nutritious diet for the all round development of children. <br/><br/>Speaking at a function after presenting the National Bravery Awards for 2009 in New Delhi today, Dr Manmohan Singh asserted that his government will leave no stone unturned to achieve this objective. Complementing the children for their of saga of valor and bravery, the Prime Minister noted that this gives him enough hope that our country will gain new heights in the committee of nations in the future. <br/><br/>Earlier he presented the bravery awards 21 children, two of them posthumously. <br/>These include 8 girls and 13 boys. The prestigious Bharat Award went to Haryana's 13 year old Gaurav Singh Saini, who saved 50 to 60 people in a stampede at Naina Devi temple. <br/><br/>Geeta Chopra Award went to 10-year-old Maibam Prity Devi of Manipur risking her life to save people and the Sanjay Chopra Award to Master Karan Nishad who saved five precious lives. The UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi and several Ambassadors and High Commissioners were present on the occasion.
