The Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today presented the 43rd Jnanpith award to eminent Malayalam poet O N V Kurup. The award was Presented at function in Thiruvananthapuram.Presiding over the function Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan expressed the hope that the Prime Minister Manmohan will consider the state's demand for granting 'classical' status to Malayalam, the only South Indian language to get the coveted ranking. He said this demand has been before the Prime Minister.
