PM pitches for urgent, considered action to root out left-wing extremism

Describing the left-wing extremism as gravest internal security threat faced by the country, the Prime Minister said that the recent events have highlighted the need for urgent and considered action to root out this problem. <br/> <br/>Dr. Manmohan singh said that while no quarter can be given to those who have challenged the authority of the Indian State and democratic polity, the fact that extremism flourishing in many of the areas which are under develpment cannot be overlook. <br/> <br/>Dr. Manmohan Singh said that the terrorism and left-wing extremism are challenging the very foundation of the country's democratic and secular polity. The Prime Minister was inguarating the Civil Service Day in New Delhi on Wednesday.<br/> <br/>Pointing to the widespread feeling that the country has not completely successful in ensuring that the benefits of the development reach the targeted section of the society, the Prime Minister said that civil servants have pivotal role to ensure that fruits of development reach the remotest of the villages.<br/> <br/>Dr. Singh said that there is need to address the complaints of leakages, corruption and lack of transparency. He said that every efforts should be made to make full use of the potentialities of the Panchayati Raj system for socially just development. <br/> <br/>Reffering to the medium term target of the government to return to annual growth of 9 per cent, Dr. Manmohan Singh said that this goal can be achieved by creating an environment in which enterprise and innovations are encouraged. <br/> <br/>He also said that the Civil Services have a major role to play in helping the government to adequately respond to the challenges posed by the globalization. <br/> <br/>Innovation in Government is the theme of this year's Civil Services Day. The Prime Minister also presented awards for Excellence in Public Administration.<br/><br/>
