PM pitches for people's involvement to bring about change in rural areas

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today pitched for people's involvement to bring about a change in rural areas. Interacting with over 230 youth working in rural areas under the Prime Minister's Rural Development Fellow (PMRDF) scheme in New Delhi, Mr. Modi asked specific suggestions from them to further refine the scheme. He appreciated them for working with dedication and devotion in rural and backward areas.

On the occasion, some participants presented brief accounts of their work on themes including women empowerment, healthcare, education, nutrition, livelihoods and Swachh Bharat. During the meeting, Mr. Modi also released a book which visually demonstrates the essence of the work being done by PMRD Fellows.

The PMRDF scheme focuses on reduction of poverty and improving the lives of the population in backward and isolated regions of the country. During the two-years of the fellowship, PMRD Fellows work closely with the district administrations to bridge the gap between people's needs and provisions by reducing developmental and governance deficits.
