PM pegs growth at 10% in ’12

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh says the country will grow at the rate of 9 to 10 per cent next year. Inaugurating the 9th edition of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in New Delhi this morning, Singh said this growth was vital for funding social development programmes in the country. He observed that will generate more employment opportunities also. Singh said more systemic changes were being brought for more transparency in the governance process. Though there is inbuilt mechanism for course correction, he observed the Centre was determined to work sincerely towards this reform measure. The Prime Minister said India had a message for the world of pluralism, tolerence and balance between individual rights and collective responsibility. Urging the Indian diaspora to invest in the untapped potential of North-Eastern Region in India, Singh said all necessary requirements would be facilitated for the two-way growth. Highlighting India's emergence on the world scenario, the Prime Minister said that all the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council visited India last year and this week onwards India would be working with them in the UNSC for next two years. Singh emphasised that the world wanted India to play a greater role and this would be achieved through renewing the country's bondage with Indians overseas.
