Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and former Parliamentarian Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his birth anniversary today. Mr Modi said in a tweet that Dr Mookerjee's contribution to India and his scholarly nature can never be forgotten.<br/><br/>Senior BJP leaders LK Advani, M Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitley, Radha Mohan Singh, Ananth Kumar and SS Ahluwalia paid floral tributes at Dr Mookerjee's portrait in the Central hall of Parliament.<br/><br/>Apart from being a political activist, Dr Mookerjee was also a barrister and academician. He also served as Minister for Industry and Supply in the first Cabinet post – Independence. He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 which was renamed as the Bharatiya Janata Party, BJP in 1980.
