PM owns responsibility for appointment of PJ Thomas

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today owned the responsibility for the appointment of PJ Thomas as the Chief Vigilance Commissioner, CVC, describing it as an error of judgement. Making a statement in the Lok Sabha, Dr Singh said that the Supreme Court has quashed the appointment of Thomas on public interest litigation and assured the House that government will adhere to the guidelines and directions given by the Apex Court in the appointment of the next CVC. He gave the House the details of the appointment of Thomas and made it clear that the Leader of the Opposition Ms Sushma Swaraj had given a dissenting note.
