PM, Obama agree for early and full implementation of civil nuclear deal

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has said that India and United States have agreed on the early and full implementation of the civil nuclear deal. Speaking at a joint Press conference after the white house summit in Washington he said transfer of nuclear technology and lifting of curbs on export of dual use of technology will open up vast fields for research in industry of both the countries. Addressing the conference, Mr. Obama said that India today is a rising and responsible global power in Asia and his administration’s commitment to India can be seen in the new strategic dialogue which addresses the full range of challenges and opportunities before the two countries. Mr. Obama said that he is fully committed to complete a bilateral civil agreement that would open up India's potential 150 billion dollar market in power plants. He expressed hope to see India's participation in the next year's nuclear summit. Asked whether he feels India and the US are natural allies, especially in the sphere of combating terrorism, Mr. Obama said, that the United States and India are natural allies not just around counter-terrorism issues, but on a whole host of issues. Referring to Indo-Pak relations, President Obama said that United States wants to find ways which can help in reducing tension between the two countries so that they can devote their resources towards the developmental aspects. While remembering the horrific Mumbai attack last year, Mr. Obama said that to prevent future attacks, both the countries have agreed that their respective law enforcement and intelligence agencies would work even closer, including sharing information. President Obama, who heaped praise on Dr Singh calling him a man of honesty and integrity, also announced that he has accepted the Prime Minister's invitation to visit India next year. <br/>
