PM: Not to resign on coal block allocation issue

The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today said that he will not resign on the coal block allocation issue. Speaking to reporters on board the special aircraft on his way back home from Tehran after attending the sixteenth NAM summit, Dr Singh said, good sense will prevail on the opposition party which disrupted Parliament.

Dr. Manmohan Singh said, he has to maintain the dignity of the office of the Prime Minister. Dr Singh said, he can not get into a slanging match with other political leaders. He expressed the hope that BJP will respect the verdict of the people and let the government function. He urged the opposition to work together with the government to tackle the problems of the country effectively. Dr Singh said, unfortunately from one crisis to another, BJP's politics has been to disrupt Parliament and these are all diversionary tactics. He said these tactics naturally affect the capacity and the ability of the government.

The Prime minister said, he was keen to visit Pakistan but for this a proper atmosphere has to be created. Dr Singh said crucial test for Islamabad is to bring to book the perpetrators of the heinous Mumbai attack. The prime minister said there is a genuine feeling that Pakistan was doing its best to stop terror acts against India from its soil. Dr Singh regretted that though he wanted to lay the foundation for nine per cent growth rate but could not achieved.

Prime Minister said, he is sincerely hoping that Congress generals secretary Rahul Gandhi will seriously consider his request to join the government. Dr Singh said, he always favoured the Prime minister to be judged by the Lok Pal. He said the ethnic violence in Assam that has claimed over 80 lives is a cause of worry. He termed as not good, the fleeing of thousands of people belonging to the north-east from Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune and other southern cities. He said that his government would work for the return of cohesion in the country.
