Prime Minister Narendra Modi today made a strong pitch for the ambitious 'Make in India' campaign and assured a predictable policy regime for business. Speaking at the inauguration of a GE facility in Pune, Mr Modi said, India is the fastest growing economy in the world with a GDP growth rate of 7.4 per cent. He assured that in the field of development and giving employment, there are a lot of opportunities in India. Mr Modi said his government's effort is to make policies predictable to attract investments, as he believes that good governance is a guarantee for development. PM also invited US-based GE and other global firms to invest in the defence sector as the government has increased the foreign direct investment, FDI, threshold in the sector to 49 per cent. He said, Railways sector in India to develop, get more technology, give speed and make it the driving force of country's economy. Governor of Maharashtra C Vidyasagar Rao, Maharashtra CM Mr. Devendera Fadnavis, Minister of State for Environment and Forest (Independent Charge) Mr. Prakash Javdekar were present on this occasion. Mr.John Rice, Vice Chairman, General Electrical announced that GE will expend its plant in Maharashtra and is planning to invest more capital for the second phase.
