PM Narendra Modi to inaugurate Vibrant Gujarat Summit Today

The three-day Vibrant Gujarat Summit will begin today at the Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the seventh edition of the event. The biennial summit was started in 2003 when Mr Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

A host of dignitaries including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry and Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay will attend the summit. Mr Modi, who arrived in Ahmedabad last evening, held meetings with Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, who is in the state capital to attend the Vibrant Gujarat Summit. The Prime Minister also met leaders of various delegations from UK, Japan, Singapore and other countries. Trade, economic ties and terror were the main issues discussed at these meetings. Mr Kerry is scheduled to meet Mr Modi tomorrow. The two leaders are expected to discuss a broad range of bilateral and global issues, including climate change.

The Summit is likely to attract investment proposals worth over one lakh crore rupees. More than 20,000 MoUs are also expected to be signed. A high profile CEO session is also scheduled at the summit which will be attended by top honchos of the business world.

Security in and around Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar has been beefed up in the wake of the arrival of a whole host of VVIPs.
