Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold bilateral discussions with his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa today in New Delhi.
Besides Sharif and Rajapaksa, Modi will also hold meetings with Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Bangladesh Parliament Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam.
All the SAARC leaders and Mauritius Prime Minister were present on the occasion of Modi's swearing-in ceremony held last evening.
According to official sources, Prime Minister’s interaction with foreign leaders will be brief but will give the first indication of the new government’s thinking on its relations with the neighbouring countries. Later, the visiting dignitaries will also call on President Pranab Mukherjee.
Last night soon after oath ceremony was over, Modi held a meeting with senior officials. In the meeting, he is believed to have been briefed about his bilateral meetings with heads of states and governments of SAARC countries.
Earlier, President Pranab Mukherjee hosted a dinner for visiting SAARC leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi where the guests were treated to a variety of dishes drawn from various parts of the country.
Among others present at the dinner were union ministers Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari and M Venkaiah Naidu.
