PM Narendra Modi launches Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon the people to take interest and create an atmosphere in the country where every person is proud of his or her village. Launching the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana(SAGY) in New Delhi today, Mr. Modi said that there is a need to understand that the aspirations of those living in villages are no different from those in the cities. He said people in villages also want to improve their quality of life and government have to make sure that happens.

The Prime Minister said that the the SAGY scheme will herald a new era of constructive politics in the country focusing on development through the society and participation of the people. He said that the country have around 800 MPs and if each MP makes three model villages by 2019 India will reach about 2500 model village.

Mr. Modi stressed the need for demand driven development saying country's development model has been supply driven till now which needs a change. He said that the government schemes must be formulated and the speed of change also increase in accordance with the changing times adding that the SAGY is just an effort to rectify errors in previous schemes. He said that the scheme is inspired by the principles and values of Mahatma Gandhi and laid equal stress on nurturing values like national pride, patriotism, community spirit, self-confidence and on developing infrastructure.

He also urged the states to launch similar scheme for MLAs to make more model villages. Remembering the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan on his birth anniversary today, Mr. Modi said that JP had said something very relevant that one can't separate democracy with politics and country need good politics. The Prime Minister said that dirty politics has hurt people's confidence in the country.

Mr. Modi , who is the MP from Varanasi, said that he will also select villages in his constituency for the SAGY scheme .

Speaking on the occasion, Rural Development minister Nitin Gadkari said, only government initiatives and schemes cannot make model villages, each one has to be a part of it.

Our correspondent adds, the scheme will be implemented in selected gram panchayats initially. The objective of SAGY is to trigger processes which lead to holistic development of the identified gram panchayats .
