Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the role of the middle class in nation-building. In a tweet today, Mr. Modi said, the middle class is at the forefront of driving growth and innovation and their hard work defines the spirit of New India. He said, the Government has consistently worked towards greater 'Ease Of Living' for the benefit of the middle class.<br />''<br />''In the last nine years, the Government has taken several policy initiatives, such as lowering borrowing rates, higher rebates in income tax, keeping inflation under control, and effective implementation of GST. These initiatives led to an increase in the disposable income and savings of the middle class. The percentage of the middle class in 2014 stood at 26 per cent which increased to 31 per cent in 2023. According to the government data, the per capita income of the nation has almost doubled and currently stands at one lakh 72 thousand as compared to 86 thousand 647 in the year 2014-15.<br />
