Both the Houses of Parliament were adjourned briefly on different issues. The Lok Sabha was adjourned for 10 minutes as members belonging to Telangana Rashtra Samiti trooped into the well of the House opposing the Centre’s directive on giving more powers to the Governor over the maintenance of law and order in Hyderabad. The agitating members insisted on a statement by Home Minister. When the house resumed, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan assured that Home Minister will make a statement on the issue.
The Rajya Sabha witnessed two adjournments, first for 10 minutes and
then till noon over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on World Trade Organization (WTO). Prime Minister had said at BJP's National Council meeting that his government took a tough stand by not signing Trade Facilitation Agreement as it has to protect the interests of poor people. Without naming Congress, Modi said those who sought votes in the name of food security, had signed the agreement which was anti poor
.
As soon as the House met for the day, Anand Sharma of the Congress said, he has given a notice for the suspension of the question hour to discuss the WTO issue. Supported by Sitaram Yechury of the CPIM, the opposition members said, there was a contradiction in the Government’s stand. Responding to this, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Prakash Javadekar alleged that the UPA had betrayed the farming community and said that NDA government has protected their interests. When the House re-assembled after its first adjournment, Leader of the House and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley clarified that the government had a different perception on Bali agreement. He said, the government is open for a discussion on the issue. As noisy scenes continued, Chairman Mohammed Hamid Ansari adjourned the House till noon.
