Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Vishakhapatnam to assess the massive devastation caused by Cyclone Hudhud. He landed at the INS Dega in the Eastern Naval Command base by a special flight this afternoon.
He will undertake a survey of the damaged areas in the city and later attend a meeting with senior officials at the Collectorate to review the situation.
AIR Correspondent reports, the Prime Minister will undertake an aerial survey of the cyclone-affected areas in north coastal Andhra and neighbouring districts of Odisha prior to which he will have a closed room review with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and higher officials of the district in the district collectorate on the situation.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu yesterday took stock of the situation with officials after an aerial survey of cyclone hit districts.
Mr. Naidu will brief the Prime Minister about the devastation caused by the cyclone and is likely to urge him to release funds immediately for restoration work.
The Andhra Pradesh government has airlifted 100 tonnes material from Vijayawada and other groceries to provide food for over five lakh people in relief and rehabilitation camps. There is a severe shortage for food, drinking water and other essential supplies as road, rail and air transport to Visakhapatnam was cut-off and people are getting agitated as supply of power has also not been restored.
There is severe shortage for fuel also and people are seen standing in long q-lines for getting petrol or diesel restricted to an amount of Rs. 100/- only in petrol stations that are open. Many petrol bunks are displaying no stock boards too.
On the other hand the Chief Minister has warned hoarders of essential civil supplies that they would dealt seriously if found guilty.
Meanwhile, the road communication between Koraput in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, snapped due to blocking of NH-26 by uprooted trees during Cyclone Hudhud, has been restored.
