Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US President Donald Trump have expressed concern about the political situation in Maldives over a phone call. <br/><br/>Both leaders also expressed the importance of respect for democratic institutions and rule of law, the White House said in a readout of the phone call between Trump and Modi, the first in this year.<br/><br/>The White House said, they also discussed the situation in Afghanisthan and enhancing security in Indo-Pacific region. <br/><br/>They reiterated their commitment to supporting Afghanistan's security and stability. <br/><br/>The two leaders also exchanged views on Myanmar and ways to address the plight of the Rohingya refugees. <br/><br/>Besides, during the call, the they also discussed further steps to ensure denuclearisation of North Korea.<br/><br/>The readout said, the leaders agreed to strengthen security and economic cooperation as they look forward to the '2+2' ministerial dialogue between their defence and diplomatic officials in April.
