Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said law is not only for the rich but also stands for the poor. Speaking at the the closing ceremony of Allahabad High Court's sesquicentennial celebrations at Allahabad, Mr Modi said, its is time now to think about the India which people want to create when nation marks 75 years of freedom in 2022.<br/><br/>Mr Modi also said technology is playing a big role in this century and has a big scope in the judiciary as well. He urged those involved with the start up sector to explore areas where technology can help the judiciary. The Prime Minister said, over 1200 obsolete laws have been scrapped by the Government since May 2014.<br/><br/>He said the Allahabad High Court is like a 'Tirtha Kshetra' for country's judiciary. He said, those associated with the legal profession played a vital role in the freedom struggle and protected the people against colonialism. The Prime Minister assured Chief Justice of India J S Khehar that government will make all efforts to back his resolve to reduce burden on judiciary and pendency of cases.<br/><br/>Earlier, Mr Khehar said, shortage of judges in the country is a prime reason of delay in justice. He said, there are large numbers of pending cases due to inadequate number of judges. Mr Khehar urged the legal fraternity to contribute more time in office to handle large number of pending case. He said, several cases can be sorted out through mediation. Pitching for paperless work while handling the cases, the Chief Justice of India said, technological up gradation in the Courts is a must.<br/><br/>During his address on the occasion, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi called for transparency in the judicial system. He said, pending cases in the State should be disposed off timely. The Chief Minister said, those in need will be provided legal aid for timely justice in the State. Mr Adityanath said justice can be delivered only with the help of law.<br/><br/>Addressing the function, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad called expediting judicial appointments in the country. He said government is committed for the independence of the judiciary. He said, ensuring justice delivery to poor people is the priority of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
