India and Australia have reaffirmed their commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Indo-Pacific, based on mutual respect and cooperation. In a joint statement issued in New Delhi today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull agreed to draw on the strengths of each country to create jobs and investment and raise living standards. <br/><br/>Both leaders agreed that Australia's resources and experience could support India's ambitious economic reform path and that India's strong growth offered opportunities for Australian investment looking for long term stable returns. <br/><br/>Recognising that an economically prosperous Indo-Pacific region is underpinned by stability and security, the two leaders underscored the importance of respecting the maritime legal order based on the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). <br/><br/>he Prime Ministers committed to deepening the bilateral defence and security partnership. They welcomed the significant progress achieved through the bilateral Framework for Security Cooperation agreed in 2014. Recognizing that terrorism constitutes one of the most serious threats to peace and stability, both the leaders reiterated their strong commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. <br/><br/>Mr Modi said, challenges like terrorism and cyber security requires global strategy and solutions. <br/>In his statement, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said, not only cricket but commitment to democracy and rule of law connects the two nations. He appreciated the success as a largest democracy in the world.<br/><br/>Earlier, India and Australia inked six agreements in areas including combating terrorism, civil aviation security, sports, health and medicine and satellite navigation. In the evening, Mr Modi and Mr Turnbull travelled in Delhi metro and visited the Akshardham Temple.
