Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet delegates of central trade unions this evening ahead of tomorrow's Labour Conference in New Delhi.

Mr Modi is likely to exchange views on different issues raised earlier by trade unions and their 10-point charter of demands. The meeting comes amid strong opposition by unions against certain proposed amendments to labour laws for improving ease of doing business. Talking to reporters, General Secretary of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh Vrijesh Upadhyay said, this is the first time that the Prime Minister is meeting the trade union delegates before the Conference.

The two-day Labour Conference will deliberate on social security for workers, both in organised and unorganised sectors, and job creation. It will also review implementation of the decisions and recommendations of earlier conferences, particularly on contract labour, minimum wages and the tripartite mechanism.

During the conference, the Prime Minister will roll out Employees' state Insurance Corporation's health reforms initiative. He will also dedicate the National Career Service portal to the nation.
