PM Modi to launch low-cost air connectivity scheme 'UDAN'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the low-cost air connectivity scheme 'UDAN' by flagging off the Alliance Airlines flight from Jubbar Hatti airport near Shimla tomorrow morning. <br/> <br/>UDAN, Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik, is a first-of-its-kind scheme globally to stimulate regional connectivity through a market-based mechanism.<br/><br/>The Jubbar Hatti airport is among the 43 airports of the country shortlisted by the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to bring them on air maps under the project UDAN. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P.Nadda and former Chief Minster of Himachal Pradesh Prem Kumar Dhumal today visited the airport and reviewed arrangements. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik is a unique project in the world under the regional connectivity scheme of NDA government. The air fare for one hour or 500 kilometers flight will be charged up to 2500 Rupees on different air routes under the project. <br/><br/>The Jubbar Hatti airport has no regular flight since September 2012 and now the air connectivity will not only facilitate local people but also boost the tourism industry in the state.<br/> <br/>The Prime Minister will also address a rally in Shimla at the historic Ridge Maidan.
