PM Modi to embark on four-nation African tour from Thursday

India is keen to expand its engagement with Africa at multiple levels by building upon its long historic ties with the continent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a visit to Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya from 7th of this month to 11. <br/><br/>Briefing the media person, Secretary (ER) Amar Sinha said that this visit to four African countries is in continuation of the high level visits by the President and Vice President to Africa recently and it shows importance of Africa for India. <br/><br/>Mr Sinha also said that during the visit of the Prime Minister, agreements are expected to be signed in the field of Energy including gas, coal and solar energy, defence technology, sports and tourism among other sectors of economic cooperation. <br/><br/>Among the major highlights of the visit, a government to government MoU is expected to be signed between India and Mozambique for the import of pulses. In a unique initiative, Indian government would provide input support to a cooperative network of farmers in Mozambique for the production of pulses to be imported by India over a period of 5-10 years. <br/><br/>In South Africa, Prime Minister will address business leaders from India and Africa to discuss avenues of bilateral trade and commerce. Agreement in defence technology and production is also likely to be signed in the private sector to facilitate investment after the liberalised FDI norms. Agreements in the fields of coal gasification technology and deep mining are also to be signed during the visit to South Africa. <br/><br/>Prime Minister will also visit places associated with Mahatma Gandhi's satyagrah experiment in South Africa. <br/>In Tanzania, the summit meeting would further strengthen cooperation in the field of solar energy between the two countries.<br/><br/>India is likely to finalise an MoU for a water supply project which is in the final stages of completion in Kenya,. An agreement in the field of sports and tourism is expected to be signed during the visit. Prime Minister will also inaugurate an Indian Chair in the department of Economics at the University of Nairobi.<br/><br/>Mr. Sinha said that the issue of expansion of the UN Security Council will come up for discussion in all the countries. The meetings would also focus on enhancing the air connectivity between India and the African countries to boost tourism and economic ties. During the visit to these countries, Prime Minister would be interacting with Indian diaspora and people of India origin.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on four nation tour of Africa on Thursday. <br/><br/>Prime Minister's visit to Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya is significant as India is expecting to strengthen its ties with these countries in the field of energy security, food security, defense production and maritime security. <br/><br/><br/>Briefing media in New Delhi today secretary economic relation Amar Sinha said that Mr Modi in first leg of his visit to Mozambique is expected to sign agreement on pulse production and import while agreements on coal gasification, deep mining are expected with some South African companies.<br/><br/>India is also planning to welcome some South Africa companies who have enhance technology in defense production. <br/><br/>Prime Minister is scheduled to address Indian diaspora in all four countries.
