PM Modi to dedicate to nation Asia's longest bi-directional road tunnel on April 2

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation, Asia's longest bi-directional road tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on the 2nd of next month. The nearly 11-km long state-of-the-art tunnel will cut down travel time between Jammu and Srinagar by two hours. <br/><br/>Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said, the nearly 2,500-crore rupees all-weather tunnel, between Udhampur and Ramban, is equipped with world-class safety features and has been built in a record four years on a hilly terrain. <br/><br/>Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mr Gadkari said, the project will result in a saving of 27 lakh rupees per day based on traffic estimates. He said, it will boost economic activity and tourism in the state, adding that it has precluded large-scale deforestation as tree cutting was not required.
