On the occasion of International Women's Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the National Convention of Women Sarpanch today at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar which is scheduled to begin in short while from now. The National Convention-Swachh Shakti 2017 has been jointly organised by the Centre and the Rural Development Department of Gujarat government.<br/> <br/>Earlier today, the Prime Minister visited Somnath temple, where he offered special prayers and attended the meeting of the Somnath Temple Trust. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in a short while to the Mahatma Mandir where the National Convention of Women Sarpanch-Swachh Shakti 2017 is all set to begin. <br/><br/>Prime Minister will address over 6000 women Sarpanchs who have come from all over the country to take part in the convention. On the occasion, PM will also present Swachhta awards as well as 5 sports awards to women achievers of Gujarat. Various stalls have been put up to showcase the traditional handicrafts of the state at Mahatma mandir.

In a tweet, he said, the various initiatives taken by his Government seek to facilitate economic empowerment, self-reliance and social equality as far as Nari Shakti is concerned. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister will address the National Convention of Women Sarpanch in Gandhinagar today on the occasion of International Women's Day. Women Sarpanch from different parts of the country will attend the event. Mr Modi said he is Looking forward to addressing a conclave of women Sarpanchs and honouring trailblazers who have worked towards a Swachh Bharat. As many as 6000 women Sarpanchs will be participating in the programme. As part of the event, over 4000 Women Sarpanchs who have come from different states were taken on tours to villages in 8 districts of the state including Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara and Kutch. <br/><br/>Successful case studies of women led self-help groups such as Women led Swachh Village campaign, village agriculture cooperatives, dairy farming, handicraft cooperatives of Kutch were showcased to them in order to help them replicate the same in their respective villages.
