Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a new crop insurance scheme at a farmers' convention in Sherpur village of Madhya Pradesh. Tight security and other arrangements have been made to control huge gathering at the venue. This convention will be the first in a series to be held across the country to apprise the farming community of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's idea of comprehensive growth. <br/><br/>The Prime Minister will present a trophy of Krishi Karman Award to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.At the programme, the Prime Minister will be conferred Kisan Mitra and Kisan Hiteshi Samman on behalf of Madhya Pradesh government for his historic decisions in the interest of farmers community. <br/><br/>Soil health cards will be and benefits of crop insurance scheme for Kharif will also be distributed to farmers. Mr Modi will address the farmer's convention after formally unveil the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address farmers today at Kisan Kalyan Mela at Sehore in Madhya Pradesh. Mr Modi will highlight Government initiatives for the development of the agriculture sector and welfare of farmers. He will also release the guidelines for operationalization of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. <br/><br/>The path breaking scheme for crop insurance was approved by the Union Cabinet last month. The scheme will come into effect from the upcoming Kharif season. It envisages a uniform premium of only 2 per cent to be paid by farmers for Kharif crops and 1.5 per cent for Rabi crops. The premium for annual commercial and horticultural crops will be 5 per cent. There is no upper limit on Government subsidy for this scheme. <br/><br/>The provision of capping the premium rate which existed in earlier schemes and resulted in low claims being paid to farmers has been done away with. Farmers will get claims against the full sum insured, without any reduction. The Prime Minister will also distribute soil health cards and crop insurance settlement claims to select beneficiaries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Bhopal today on a day-long visit to Madhya Pradesh. Mr. Modi will attend a farmers' function 'Kisan Mahasammelan organised at Sherpur in Sehore district. PM Modi will also formally launch Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme during this occasion. This scheme will ensure more claim amount in case of crop damages. <br/><br/>Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, Foreign Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Thavarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and MP BJP President Nandkumar Singh Chouhan will be present in the Mahasammelan. Also thousands of farmers are likely to attend this programme. Elaborate sitting arrangements have been made for the farmers. Basic amenities like drinking water and parking would also be ensured. Tight security measures have been made for the Prime Ministers visit.
