PM Modi remembers Rani Velu Nachiyar on her birth anniversary

<span style="color: #222222;">Prime Minister Narendra Modi today remembered the brave Rani Velu Nachiyar on her birth anniversary. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, her indomitable courage shall keep motivating the coming generations. He said, Rani Velu Nachiyar's strong commitment to fight colonialism was remarkable. The Prime Minister said, she personifies the spirit of our Nari Shakti, women's power.<br />”<br />”AIR Correspondent reports, that Rani Velu Nachiyar was the queen of Sivaganga and she was one of the first Indian rulers to wage war with the East India Company. Fondly called Veeramangai, the brave woman, she was the princess of Ramanathapuram. She was well trained in martial arts like Valari, Stick fight, horse riding, and archery. She also mastered many languages like French, English, and Urdu. She married the king of Sivagangai, with whom she had a daughter. When her husband, Muthuvaduganathaperiya Udaiyathevar, the King of Sivagangai was killed by British soldiers she was drawn into battle. She escaped with her daughter and waged war against the British in an alliance with Hyder Ali. Nachiyar inherited the kingdom of her husband and ruled it for ten more years. In 1790, the throne was inherited by her daughter Vellachci.&nbsp;</span><br />
