PM Modi meets media honchos, promises protection to IPR

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India is committed to provide protection to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). Addressing a round table on 'Media, Technology and Communications-Growth Story for India' in New York, he said protection of IPRs is essential for fostering creativity. He said this is a technology driven era and we are a technology driven society.<br/><br/> The round table was attended by CEOs of top media and entertainment industry including News Corp, 21st century Fox, Discovery, Sony and Time Warner. These firms together account for approximately 40 percent turnover of world media and entertainment industry.<br/><br/>The Prime Minister said India represents both the biggest opportunity and biggest challenge for media companies and requested them to keep regional languages in mind when they make investment plans for India. He said government plans to connect 6 lakh villages through broadband connectivity and emphasised the role of digital technology in human resource development.<br/><br/>The CEOs called for speeding up of Television digitisation and strengthening of mobile phone infrastructure.
