PM Modi launches Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 & Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0

<span style="color: #222222;">Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, SBM-U and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0, AMRUT. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The two missions have been designed to realize the aspiration to make all cities Garbage Free and Water Secure. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">These flagship missions signify a step forward towards effectively addressing the challenges of rapidly urbanizing India. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">It will also help in achieving the targets set under the Sustainable Development Goals-2030.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Launching the initiatives at a function in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said, the aim of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 is to make cities garbage-free while the Second Phase of Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation is to make cities water secure. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He stressed on the scope of the country's target in the next phase of Mission AMRUT as improving sewage and septic management, making the cities water safe cities and ensuring that no sewage drains anywhere in the rivers. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The  Prime Minister remarked that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar  believed in urban development as a great means of removing inequality. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Many people from villages come to cities with an aspiration for a better life. He said, they get employment but their standard of living remains in a difficult situation even compared to their lives in the villages. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Mr. Modi said, the next phase of Swachh Bharat Mission and Mission AMRUT is an important step towards fulfilling the dreams of Babasaheb.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He said, cleanliness is not just for a day, fortnight or year, it is a mega campaign for everyday and for everyone to take part in it. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He called upon all the State Governments, Mayors and local administrations to actively get back to the cleanliness mission. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Lauding the services of Safai Karmcharis, the Prime Minister said, they are heroes of Swachh Bharat Mission. He said, the  country has watched their contribution in the difficult times of Corona.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Enumerating the steps taken for the campaign of cleanliness to the next level, the Prime Minister noted that India is processing about one lakh tonnes of waste every day. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He remarked,  when the country started the campaign in 2014, less than 20 per cent of the waste generated every day was processed. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Today, the country is processing about 70 per cent of daily waste. He said, now we have to take it to 100 per cent. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Prime Minister said the garbage mountains in cities will be processed and removed completely.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Talking about fund allocation for urban development, Mr. Modi said, in the preceding 7 years before 2014, about 1.25 lakh crore rupees were provided for the sector while in 7 years from 2014, almost 4 lakh crore rupees were allocated. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He also said the use of modern technology is also continuously increasing for the development of cities accross the country. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The Prime Minister mentioned the recently launched National Automobile Scrappage Policy and pointed out that this new scrapping policy strengthens the campaign of Waste to Wealth and a circular economy. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He stressed the need to ensure 100 per cent urban families receive water connections and sewer lines connectivity. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He added that once sewage water treatment increases in the country, it will help in keeping rivers cleaner.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Highlighting the PM Street Vendor's Aatmanirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme, Mr. Modi said, the scheme has come as a new ray of hope for street vendors.  </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He added that 25 lakh people have received 2.5 thousand crore rupees under the scheme. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Mr. Modi said, the street vendors are now doing digital transactions and paying back their loans on time. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">In a very short time, these vendors have already done over seven crore digital transactions. Mr. Modi also said Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have provided maximum loans to street vendors and urged all states to extend help to them to empower urban poor. </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri,  Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Kaushal Kishore and Bishweswar Tudu and others were present on the occasion.</span><span style="color: #202124;"> </span>
