PM Modi, Israeli PM hold talks on cooperation in cyber security, agriculture, water management

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu have discussed ways and means to increase cooperation in various fields of Cyber security, agriculture, and water management.

At a bilateral meeting in New York, Netanyahu offered to share farming technologies with India. Prime Minister Modi said he would like Israel to work with India in the field of urban development.

Mr Modi said there are about 500 cities in India where water management will be a major issue given the growth in these cities. There was a detailed discussion on water management and waste management in these areas. Defence ties were also discussed and Mr. Modi told the Israeli Prime Minister that in his vision Make in India is the priority.

The Israeli Prime Minister said computer software is an area where the two countries can cooperate. He recalled the days when he himself was working in a software company in California. He said the software professionals are either from India or Israel.

External Affairs Ministry spokesman Sayed Akbaruddin said the Israeli Prime Minister explained at some length the way Israel perceives the developments in the West Asian region. Netanyahu invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Israel. Mr.Modi had visited Israel as Chief Minister of Gujarat. India and Israel have a robust relationship. Their economic ties have been growing rapidly.

They have trade of approximately USD 6 billion. A delegation of American Jewish community also called on the Prime Minister Modi. They noted with great satisfaction that there has not been a single incident of discrimination against the Jews in India.
