Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with leading economists and sectoral experts with the focus on finding ways to double the income of farmers. <br/><br/>The meeting, held at NITI Aayog in New Delhi yesterday evening, saw the participation of over 40 economists and experts. The theme of the interactive session was 'Economic Policy – The Road Ahead'.<br/><br/>Talking to reporters after the meeting, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said, during the session, participants shared their views on various economic themes such as macro-economy, agriculture and rural development, employment, health and education, manufacturing and exports, urban development, infrastructure and connectivity. <br/><br/>He said, experts advocated for shifting the focus from agricultural production to raising farmers' income by improving productivity, lowering costs and greater market access.<br/><br/>Mr Kumar also said, during the meeting, experts including healthcare experts strongly supported the National Medical Commission Bill and called it a historic step.<br/><br/>In his intervention, the Prime Minister thanked the participants for their suggestions and observations on various aspects of the economy. <br/><br/>Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also thanked all the participants for their thought-provoking suggestions. <br/><br/>The meeting was attended by several Union Ministers including Radha Mohan Singh and RK Singh and NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar among others.
