Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said that the prices of major pulses have come down. In a series of tweets, Mr Naidu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his initiatives to bring down the prices of pulses. He said, the sown area under pulses has increased from 95 Lakh Hectare in 2014-15 to almost 140 lakh Hactere in 2016-17. Mr Naidu said, the increased availability of imported pulses and the estimate of a bumper harvest will further bring down the prices. He said, over 1 lakh tonnes of pulses were seized during raids last year and it was released in the market at a cheaper rate. Government has also put imposition of stock limits to prevent hoarding and it must have cooling effect on price and bring relief to consumers.
