Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a tea party for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs at his residence in New Delhi this evening. All Shiv Sena MPs attended the function.
Important social programmes and schemes including Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Jan Dhan Yojana were discussed. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, one of the MPs from Gujarat, Purushottam Rupala said, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the lawmakers to effectively implement Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in their constituencies .
Mr Rupala also said, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu appealed to the MPs to ensure their presence during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.
BJP General Secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, Mr Modi focused his talk on how MPs can be a centre of big change in the country. He said, all Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs attended the tea party which lasted from about two hours.
Later a release issued by the BJP said that during the interaction, the Prime Minister said, though achieving Swachh Bharat is difficult, it can be achieved in the same spirit as people came together to eradicate polio.
He urged the MPs to visit schools in their areas over a five day period beginning 14th November, the 125th birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and explain to children the importance of hygiene. Mr Modi said, it will send a positive message. The Prime Minister asked the MPs to take to people the work done by the NDA government for the welfare of the poor.
AIR Correspondent reports, during the tea party, the MPs were given presentation by Cabinet Ministers on government's initiatives and schemes. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley briefed the MPs on Jan Dhan Yojana, recent ordinance on coal blocks and diesel deregulation and whereas Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister spoke on new gas pricing policy for natural gas.
Rural Development Minister Nitin Gadkari made a presentation on Adarsh Gram Yojana and Health Minister on new initiatives in health sector. Parliamentary Affairs M Venkaiah Naidu outlined the contours of the forthcoming winter session of Parliament.
The Diwali Milan get together came at a significant time when uncertainty over government formation in Maharashtra prevails. It was keenly watched for signs of possible reunion of BJP with Shiv Sena.
