Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the loss of lives in Afghanistan due to avalanches. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, India stands ready to assist the country in any way possible.<br/><br/>More than 107 people were killed and dozens injured in Afghanistan after three days of heavy snowfall caused a series of deadly avalanches yesterday. In the deadliest incident, 53 people died in one village after an avalanche in Nuristan, a north-eastern Afghan province on the Pakistan border. <br/><br/>Rescuers are experiencing difficulty reaching trapped people, because of bad weather and snow-blocked roads. The main international airport in Kabul has also been closed because of snow. Officials are warning of more avalanches as snow storms are continuing.<br/><br/>In northern Pakistan, thirteen people were also killed in an avalanche, nine of them in the town of Chitral.
