In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, people of India join him insincerely condoling the loss of a steadfast friend. Mr Modi said Senator McCain's statesmanship, courage, conviction and understanding of global affairs will be missed.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The 81-year old celebrated Vietnam war hero died last night after losing a battle to brain cancer. The six-term Senator was also a Republican Presidential nominee in 2008.  McCain had been battling glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer discovered in July 2017.</span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"><br />''A fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, he spent more than five years as a prisoner of war after his plane was shot down. While in the custody he suffered torture that left him with lasting disabilities.</span><br />
