The Prime Minister has emphasized the need for a strict but sensitive, modern, alert, accountable and a responsive police force to take care of the country's law and order. He also emphasized the importance of an efficient intelligence network in this regard.
He also highlighted the need to honour the 33,000 police personnel martyred in the country since independence. Mr. Modi said police welfare is another issue, which needs to be given importance. He said an account of life of police men killed on duty must be made mandatory in the syllabus of police academies in the states.
Later speaking at the closing function of the ten-day Manipur Sangai Festival at the Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre in Imphal, the Prime Minister said that the National Sports University to be established in Manipur will change the development scenario of the state. He said the University will groom not only sporting talents but also umpires, scorers, dieticians, architects of sporting grounds etc. of international standard. Mr. Modi said, sport is a very big economy and he has even asked Australia to join the new venture in Manipur during his recent visit to the country.
