Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked BJP MPs and MLAs to submit details of their bank account transactions between 8th November and 31st December to party President Amit Shah. Addressing BJP Parliamentary Party meeting in New Delhi today, Mr. Modi rejected the allegation that the Income-Tax Amendment Bill tabled in the Lok Sabha yesterday is for converting black money into white.

The bill proposes to levy a total tax, penalty and surcharge of 50 percent on the amount deposited post demonetisation while higher taxes and penalty of upto 85 per cent await those who don't disclose but are caught. Speaking to media, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said the Prime Minister described the move as fight against black money. He said Mr. Modi also sought support from everyone to make India a digital and cashless economy.

On Parliament impasse, Mr. Kumar reiterated that the government is ready for discussion on the issue of demonetization. He said the Prime Minister will also express his views on the issue.

Congress has described the Prime Minister's direction as an attempt to hide what it called the largest scam that the country has seen through the demonetization.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Sushmita Dev said the NDA government time and again asking its MPs and MLAs to show the details of their accounts is nothing but a hoax as people know that the members are required to give a copy of their financial returns to the Speaker's office.

She said the government must probe the surge in the Bank accounts in September this year which has not been accounted for by JPC or any other method.

On passage of Taxation Laws (Second Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha, today Ms Dev said, as per the Parliamentary Rules, the President must assent before the Amendment is considered in the House but that was surpassed in this case.

She said the bill was introduced in a hurry, despite the fact that the House was not in order.
