PM Modi announces 570 crore rupees aid for renovation work in J&K's flood hit areas

The Prime Minister has promised more relief to the flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir and do his utmost to ensure a life of dignity to the jawans, who defend the country in very difficult conditions.

Spending the Deepawali day today in Srinagar and with Jawans at the world'd highest battle field – Siachen Glacier, Narendra Modi announced 175 crore rupees to renovate major hospitals in Kashmir Valley and 570 crore rupees for renovation work of the flood hit areas in the state.

He said the nation stands behind the people of Jammu and Kashmir at the hour of their difficulty and everything will be done to alleviate their suffering. He had meetings with NC and PDP leaders besides the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

Abdullah thanked Modi for visiting the Valley and Ladakh on Diwali and briefed him about the gigantic challange of reconstructing Jammu and Kashmir and rehabilitating the flood affected families. Prime Minister also held a separate meeting with Governor N.N. Vohra.

Earlier, he made a surprise visit to Siachen glaciier and assured jawans that the entire nation stands behind them shoulder to shoulder. Wishing the people of the nation and the President Mr.Pranab Mukherjee on the occasion of Deepawali , he told the jawans that he has come to celebrate his first Deepawali as Prime Minister with them.

Addressing the officers and the jawans at the base camp, Modi praised their valour and courage and said 125 crore Indians could celbrate Deepawali today because the Jawans are guarding the borders and prepared to make any sacrifice.

Expressing that the nation is proud of all three wings of the armed forces, he said the jawans at Siachen work in one of the remotest places in the world and it is a rare opportunity to be called upon to defend the country in such a difficult situation.

Recalling the immense contribution made by the armed forces during the recent floods in Kashmir, Modi also appreciated the fact that women too are now contributing to the Indian Armed Forces in a significant way.

He said their dreams and responsibilities are the entire country's responsibility and let the jawans too inspire the rest of the country to work towards achieving the dreams and aspirations of the common man.

The Prime Minister said the promise of One Rank, One Pension has been fulfilled, and preparations are on for a National War Memorial, that we could all be proud of.
