PM meets Chinese President; India -China decide to deepen ties in education, agriculture and trade

India and China on Thursday said that they are partners and not competitors and the world is large enough to accommodate the aspirations of both the countries. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Chinese President Hu Jintao underlined that India- China friendship is of mutual advantage and good for peace and stability in the world. Both the leaders held bilateral talks on the sidelines of IBSA and BRIC Summits for about 45 minutes and decided to deepen ties in the fields of education, agriculture, defence, trade and economic relations. Briefing newsman after the meeting, the External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said that both the sides agreed that trade and economic relations constitute the key pillars of bilateral relations. The two leaders expressed concern about trade imbalance and desired to see the rapid growth in this field. Bilateral trade target is 60 billion dollars for 2010. China is India's largest trading partner. Both the sides described the year 2010 as the momentous year in bilateral ties. They desired to invest more in each others countries and have greater market access for each others products.<br/><br/>Commerce Minister Mr. Anand Sharma, National Security advisor were also present in the meeting which also discussed global issues like climate change, Doha round, terrorism and coordination in multi lateral fora. New Delhi and Beijing expressed the hope for a fair, reasonable and mutually accepted settlement of the boundary issue.
