Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh arrived in Dhaka today on a two day visit to Bangladesh. The Prime Minister was received at the airport by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her cabinet colleagues, three service Chiefs and other senior officials. AIR correspondent reports Dr. Singh was given a 19 gun salute and guard of honour by contingents of the army, navy and airforce.
The Prime Minister is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister S.M Krishna, Water resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal and Chief ministers of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram. A number of framework agreements, Memoranda of Understanding and protocols on water sharing, land and rail connectivity, education, culture, trade commerce and infrastructure development are likely to be signed during his visit. Diplomatic sources said the two countries are also considering the signing of a long-term framework agreement for forging close bilateral relations.
Later, the Prime Minister left for Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka to pay tribute at the National Martyrs Mausoleum.
